SQA AD (formerly SQA HND), is a Scottish Higher National Diploma (HND) issued by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (also known as the Scottish Qualifications Authority, SQA), and has been issued since January 1, 2019. With the support of the Vocational Skills Appraisal Center of the Ministry of Labour, the China Enterprise Confederation and other institutions, the China Service Center for Studying Abroad (CSCSE) and the Scottish Qualifications Management Council (SQA) have jointly introduced the British Higher Education Diploma (HND) program to China. It provides high school graduates and those with the same education (including secondary vocational school graduates) with the opportunity to receive high-quality foreign education resources in China, and saves students and parents expensive study abroad expenses.
The program has a high-quality curriculum system, advanced teaching concepts, and a combination of academic and vocational curriculum features, which has been recognized by many countries in the world. Students who obtain this diploma are equivalent to completing the first two years of courses in British universities, and also have a considerable level of English and professional qualifications in their majors. After obtaining the diploma in China, Chinese students meet the requirements of foreign universities and can enter universities in the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Ireland, France, Singapore and Malaysia to continue their undergraduate studies.

There are more than 33 domestic institutions participating in the project, including: Central University of Finance and Economics, Renmin University of China, Beijing Institute of Technology, Beijing Normal University, Beihang University, Beijing International Studies University, Jinan University, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Shanghai International Studies The University’s Xianda College of Economics and Humanities, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Xiamen University, Sichuan University, etc., offers more than 30 majors in 5 major categories: business, computer, tourism and hotel management, logistics, and engineering. After graduation, students can choose to study abroad or work in China.

SQA Advanced Diploma is the equivalent name for the Higher National Diploma (HND), and SQA Advanced Certificate is equivalent name for the Higher National Certificate (HNC).

References to HNs during transition phase
Centres can refer to HNs in operational materials – such as teaching materials and graduation photos – until 31 December 2021. This is solely to support the delivery of HN courses started before 31 December 2018.

Centres must no longer refer to HNs in any other communications, such as website copy, URLs, printed materials, banner stands, social media and video content.

Doing this could be seen as marketing or promoting HNs outside of Scotland, which is not permitted.

Codes
SQA Advanced Qualification codes differ from HN codes. Centres should check the relevant qualification page to ensure they use the correct codes when registering or resulting candidates. Using the wrong codes could lead to candidates receiving incorrect certificates.
